As the tenure of the current legislative assembly (Vidhan Sabha) in Gujarat expires in January 2018, Gujarat Assembly Election 2017 for the 14th assembly will be held in December 2017. The Election Commission has announced a two-phase Gujarat assembly (Vidhan Sabha) election 2017 date for the year 2017. The first phase of Gujarat polls will be held on Dec 09, 2017 and the second phase of Gujarat Polls will be held on Dec 14, 2017. As announced by the Election Commission of India, the counting of votes for the Gujarat Assembly Election 2017 will be held on Dec 18, 2017, which is also the date for the counting of votes for Himachal Pradesh assembly elections 2017. 

NEW DELHI:  Assembly elections in Gujarat will be held on two days, December 9 for 89 assembly seats and December 14 for 93 seats, the Election Commission said today. Results will be announced for all 182 seats on December 18, along with Himachal Pradesh, which votes on November 9. A model code of conduct, which prohibits announcements that can influence voters, comes into effect immediately. The Gujarat elections have been announced 13 days after poll dates were declared for Himachal Pradesh, a delay that opposition party Congress alleges allowed the BJP more time to announce sops and launch big projects. The Election Commission and the BJP have rejected the charge.
